chapter five

because the Avatar drenched the village on Kyoshi with freezing ocean water to put the fires out, Yanmei grew ill from said cold water. she was upset that she missed out on Zuko's adventures and fighting the Avatar and his friends, but she also knew that Zuko wouldn't even let her leave her chambers until she was 100% better.

during her time of rest, the young girls thoughts often floated to the water tribe boy. she didn't quite know why she saved him from the fire, but she felt like she had to, as if something was pulling her towards him. she didn't want to think of him, Ken had just died, and she believed she loved him, yet she couldn't help but think about the other boy in the way she first thought of Ken. Sokka was brave, handsome and a big clumsy, but he always tried protected those he cared for. he was like Ken in so many ways. but unlike Ken, he couldn't bend. Sokka was smart and used that as an advantage when fighting, since many benders don't use their brain when trying to wipe out an enemy. she admired Sokka for engaging in fights with benders while only having a boomerang and a club as his weapon.

to Yanmei, Sokka was the closet thing she had to feeling normal. she couldn't believe she was actually admitting it, but she wanted to see him again, even if she fought him, she just wanted to feel something.

Yanmei sat meditating in her chambers when Iroh walked in, "would you like to join me on a hunt in town to find a new lotus tile so we can play Phi Sho?" the old man asks with a wide grin.

Yanmei giggles at the old man, "i'd love to Iroh"

and so the two, and Zuko, looked through every store on the pier. and in the end Iroh came to the conclusion that there were no lotus tiles in sight for sale.

"it's good to know that this trip was a complete waste of time for everyone!" Zuko scolded to his uncle while Yanmei nudged the prince with her elbow.

"oh, lighten up Zuzu. let the old man have his day. at least we aren't leaving empty handed" she said. gesturing towards the many items Iroh had bought while at the market.

"this place looks promising!" Iroh said pointing towards a pirate ship. the two teens then groaned as Iroh dragged them towards the ship to look for more collectibles for Iroh.

"well that's attractive" Yanmei muttered as she and the royals looked at a monkey statue that was honestly hideous.

and out of bored boredom, Yanmei couldn't help but over hear the pirates conversation, "we lost the water tribe girl and the little bald monk she was traveling with" one of them said.

"this monk, did he have an arrow on his head?" Zuko asked as he joined the conversation.

Zuko and the pirates then made a deal; Zuko and his firebenders and Yanmei would get Katara and the waterbending scroll, them the pirates would capture Aang and bring him to Zuko.
